Each year the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission releases a statistical report listing the number of filings and benefits paid among many other statistics. The report is available here. For the year 2012, 134,928 Virginians suffered a workplace injury that was reported to the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission. Of the reported injuries, 61,735 were considered to be minor. That leaves 73,193 Virginians suffering a serious workers compensation injury in one year.

Employers who meet certain requirements are legally obligated to have workers' compensation insurance to cover their employees. The insurers have trained adjusters and lawyers who know Virginia Workers' Compensation law and often to work to deny benefits to injured workers' who deserve benefits.
