The statistics showing the dangers of texting and driving are surprising.  Many of them can be found here.  On my way to work, I frequently see other drivers looking at their phones and entering information.  I can see that they are not paying any attention to their driving for those few seconds and would be unable to react to an emergency situation. Studies have shown that texting while driving increase your chances of being in an accident more than 23 times.  Please do not text and drive.  Anything said in a text can wait until you reach your destination.
